REGARDING your article (LET, December 27) on the standard of nursing on Ward 5 at Blackburn Infirmary, I am a patient there and, on quite a number of occasions during the last 12 months, have been admitted to the same ward.
At no time have I, or the many other patients I have spoken to, had any concern over the nursing.
The staff have certainly no need to "review their fundamental purpose in nursing."
Of course, there are times when one has to wait for a nurse (we don't live in a perfect world), but if the nurse is attending to another patient, has the nurse leave him or her to answer the buzzer? I think not.
These nurses are human beings, not robots, and should be treated as such by their fellow human beings.
DOROTHY BRIGHOUSE, Ward 5, Blackburn Infirmary.
