AN urgent appeal for blood donors went out as North West transfusion workers looked certain to start a work-to-rule.
Transfusion staff were set to vote at a Manchester meeting and union officials said the mood was for action.
More protest action was forecast as nurses at Calderstones Hospital faced a strike ballot over threats to cut 42 jobs.
