FIVE road schemes in Burnley dating back almost 25 years are set to be cancelled by county councillors.
They were inherited by Lancashire Council from the borough authority in 1974 but the work has never been carried out.
Now the county's highways and transportation committee, which meets on Wednesday, is recommended to cancel them.
This will allow properties and land earmarked to make space for the planned improvements to be declared surplus to requirements and sold.
The schemes are an inner link road including improvements to the A682 Manchester Road/Hammerton Street junction; A671 Trafalgar Street improvements; A671 Padiham Road improvements between Ightenhill Park Lane and Stephenson Drive; improvements to junction between Padiham Road and A646 Kiddrow Lane; and A679 Accrington Road improvement east of Smallshaw Lane.
A report to the committee says that since 1974 traffic movements and priorities in the town have changed and there is neither the justification nor cash to proceed with them.
Burnley Council has agreed to the cancellation but wants to see alternative solutions for the inner link road and Trafalgar Street sites.
