RESCUERS helped Rossendale and Darwen MP Janet Anderson's husband Vince to safety from a fog-shrouded Lake District fell.
Mr Anderson, 51, who is a lawyer for Safeways, went walking on Sunday afternoon above Haweswater, with a friend.
However, while on the hills a thick fog came down and they lost their way.
As darkness fell, they realised that they would be unable to get down to Haweswater unaided.
The two men then ran into a party of schoolchildren and persuaded them against trying to get down without help.
Mr Anderson's friend rang his home near Oldham and his wife alerted the Penrith Mountain Rescue team.
They managed to find Mr Anderson, his friend and the school party and bring them safely to Haweswater for around 9pm.
Mr Anderson got back to the family's Darwen home after midnight, somewhat shaken.
Mrs Anderson, who had already returned to London, said: "It was quite a frightening experience for all of them."
