Jailed tycoon Owen Oyston could face another blow this week as radio bosses meet to decide whether his companies can hold on to control of licenses for his radio interests which include the local Bay Radio station. Oyston's suitability to run the stations was called into question when he faced rape charges last year but the Radio Authority put any action on hold until the entrepreneurs appeal was heard just before Christmas. Following the failure of his appeal the Oyston group of companies had until December 31 to put any submissions for consideration before the authority - it is understood also that any other interested parties would be allowed to make submissions at the meeting scheduled for today (Thursday).
The crucial thing appears to be who actually holds the controlling interest in the stations and how far Oyston's personal contribution actually carries. It is understood that Oyston had a controlling 51 per cent share in Bay Radio and his companies head other stations including stations in Northern Ireland including Heart Beat, Gold Beat and City Beat.
