WHAT will £10,000 buy you?
Nestled in the Hyndburn countryside, Oswaldtwistle's Stanhill Reservoir could yours for the price of a new car.
And although the history of the reservoir remains a mystery, the future could be bright for a buyer with conservation in mind.
Waterfood Foods, who now own the reservoir, off Stanhill Road, have asked Manchester chartered surveyors Storey Sons and Parker to put the beauty spot on the market.
Steven Carnes, of Storey Sons and Parker, said: "The exact history of the reservoir has been lost in the mists of time. But, as part of its on-going review of property requirements, Waterford's has decided to dispose of the site."
Waterford Foods acquired the reservoir when they bought works premises some years ago.
As the company has no use for it, they have decided to put it up for sale as a social interest.
Mr Carnes added: "It is understood that the reservoir does still hold fish and may be of interest to local fishing clubs or community groups. Depending on the results of an acidity test, it could be used for trout farming or general fishing. Unfortunately, the reservoir is too small for water sports."
