A FORMER Age Concern worker will take on the gruelling London Marathon to raise cash for his favourite charity.
Craig Nixon, of Ribbleton Lane, Preston, is running his first ever marathon in April and is aiming for a time under three hours.
Craig finished working for Age Concern three months ago but promised he would still support the organisation.
He said: "It's a very good charity which has been excellent to me so I wanted to give something back. I've always wanted to run the marathon so I thought I'd do it for a good cause."
The 25-year-old, who now works as a duty officer at Clayton Green Leisure Centre, has always been a keen runner and when he worked at a hotel in Broughton, he completed a 16-mile route from Blackpool Tower to the hotel.
Craig will focus on his training now the festive period is over and is hoping to tot up 45 miles a week in the run-up to the Flora London Marathon on April 26.
And you could join him as Age Concern Preston and South Ribble is searching for more runners to raise thousands of pounds to support its work with local people. Those who bear the banner for Age Concern will receive training packs, magazines, help with fund-raising ideas and vital support leading up to the big day. Anyone interested in running for Age Concern Preston and South Ribble, should call 01772 253079.
