BUDDING gymnasts could soon benefit from a state-of-the-art centre of excellence if a Leyland club's dreams come true.
Central Lancashire Gymnastics Club is looking for sponsors and lottery cash for the ambitious project which would be unique to the area.
The £50,000 plans would be a boost for the successful all-girl squad as it would help stop better gymnasts being lured away to bigger teams.
And club coaches, currently based in Worden High School, said they would also attract disabled people and boys - two groups becoming increasingly interested in the sport.
Senior coach Tracy Knowles, who runs the club with mum Lyn, said: "The school has been brilliant but we've outgrown it.
"We've not got much room and need space for new equipment. We're so motivated and to have a new centre of excellence would benefit a lot of people.
"There's a big demand for boy and special needs gymnastics in this area so these facilities would be fantastic."
Tracy said if members can raise just over a third of the money - around £20,000 - they should get a positive response from lottery bosses.
She added: "We've set up a fund-raising committee and got some sponsorship from Preston North End, but the gymnasts are all locals so it would be nice if someone local could become a major contributor."
