GET tough Council chiefs in Bury have brought their first prosecutions against illegal car parkers.
Car parking charges have applied in the town since 1993 but the local authority had not, until now, taken legal action against those who failed to pay up.
Now three prosecutions have been brought before magistrates in Bury. The matters involved car owners whose vehicles were left on car parks in the town without a valid parking ticket.
Appearing before the Bench, Jason Westwell of Tunstead Road, Bacup, pleaded guilty to failing to give information to identify the driver.
Westwell was fined £60 with £60 costs. A similar fine and costs were also awarded against Patricia Williams from Walmersley Road, Bury, and Andrew Mather of Lever Street, Radcliffe, who were convicted in their absence.
