A MAN claiming to be a family friend tried to entice a ten-year-old boy into his car in the Ramsbottom area.
And now, police chiefs are warning parents to be on their guard following the incident which happened on Tuesday, January 6.
The youngster had just left St Andrew's CE Primary School when he was approached by the stranger in Nuttall Lane at 4.30pm. He fled to his nearby stepmother's house to call the police.
Detective Inspector Ian Jackson of Bury CID said: "We are treating the incident very seriously and are asking parents to warn their children about the dangers of talking to strangers under any circumstances."
The man is white, aged 50, of medium build with thinning grey hair, a moustache and beard. He tried to entice the boy into a black, four-door, Ford Escort hatchback.
Following the incident schools in the area have been warning children about the dangers of talking to strangers.
Head of St Andrew's CE Primary School, Mr Colin Cliffe said: "The boy was shaken up last night but seems okay now.
"We are pleased he did exactly what the school had been telling children to do in situations like this.
He added: "Since the incident we have again been re-enforcing the message in assembly and classes about not talking to strangers."
