Carnforth gained two league points on Saturday in what was literally a game of two halves.
The home pack had an encouraging afternoon despite again being up against a larger eight. The youthful front row of Michael Blanchard, Darren King and Ian Poole matched their counterparts and with locks Shane Rich and Bob Coulton in their usual form the front five was solid. On the flank the tireless Graham Rich and Gavin Barton covered a lot of ground and made several telling breaks. Behind the scrum the live wire scrum half Jason Coulton, recently appointed vice-captain, linked well with his backs and was at the heart of many of Carnforth's moves, none more so than the attack that set up the winning try. His break allowed winger John Whitaker to score in the corner after sidestepping the final defender.
Carnforth take a rest from league rugby this Sunday when they travel to Bay Horse.
