PUPILS at a Blackburn school created a pond from scratch - in just three days.
The project was designed as a "personal challenge" for eight year 10 students and transformed part of the school grounds.
The pond is at the start of the Arran trail, a one-mile long path which runs round Queens Park High School playing fields.
Snails, sticklebacks and other creatures were brought from other ponds to stock the water.
Head of history John Waddington, who co-ordinated the project, said pupils would continue to maintain and develop the site.
"They periodically clear litter, replace dislodged stones and will care for the many plants and shrubs planted," he said.
"What is very pleasing is that the site has not been vandalised at all."
Blackburn with Darwen Council provided £1,000 of funding for the project, which counted towards the pupils' Record of Achievement awards.
The pond project has been entered in this year's Lancashire Evening Telegraph Grimewatch Awards. The judges make their decision on Friday and the winners will be announced in March.
