A SUPERMARKET is to be asked to foot some of the bill for a bus shelter to protect shoppers from the rain.
Plans to put up a shelter at the stop on Bury Road, Rawtenstall, next to Asda hit snags because the pavement which runs alongside the river is narrow at this point and, for road safety reasons, the stop cannot be moved.
The solution suggested by council engineers is for the pavement to be extended backwards by building a platform up from the river wall.
Engineering Committee chairman Coun Alan Fishwick suggested: "Perhaps we should ask Asda, who have a direct link to the number of people using this bus stop to contribute to the cost of the shelter if not fund the whole lot."
