CROOKS have helped local blind and deaf groups save thousands of pounds thanks to stacks of counterfeit cassettes.
Preston and North Lancashire Blind Welfare Society and Deafway have been given 10,000 audio and video tapes for talking and visual newspapers after being seized by trading standards officers.
Caring cubs from the Second Leyland Scout Group gave up their time to remove sleeves so the tapes are ready to use.
Peter Taylor of the Blind Welfare Society, which records the Citizen every week, said: "We use 2,000 tapes a week and while we get many back, some get lost or broken. The donation amounts to a year's supply."
