Ashton 10 St Helens Crusaders nil ASHTON tightened their grip on the top of the North West Counties League Division Six after victory over their top-of-the-table rivals.
Both sides contributed to a fine spectacle in heavy conditions.
Crusaders defended stoutly but they were undone by the only try of the first half.
Crusaders hit back immediately with strong running from Molyneux, Yelland, Ledger and Dunne.
And with Whitrow and Briggs using the bomb to good effect they came close to equalising, only for two "tries" to be disallowed.
The second half saw both side again producing great tackling stints, but Ashton finally sealed the points with a converted try. The NDE Format man of the match was Ste Molyneux, with Ste Briggs and Daz Lee in contention.
