ADVENTUROUS student Pav Akhtar is looking forward seeing in the new Millennium thousands of miles from home - in Russia.
The globetrotting 20-year-old from Preston is over the moon after becoming the only person in the world to land a prestigious scholarship.
He will jet out to Petrozavodsk, near St Petersburg, in September 1999 and will spend a year doing research and teaching in the university.
The news comes a couple of months after Pav, who studies English at Cambridge University, returned from Kashmir where he worked with the UN helping children suffering from disabilities and AIDS.
Seasoned traveller Pav, of Blackpool Road, has also been to Paris, New York and Turkey among other places.
He said: "I've started to learn Russian even though there's quite a long time until I go.
"My family are getting used to me being away by now."
Budding teacher Pav added: "I love finding out about other people's cultures."
