UNLUCKY golfer David Gilmour has the biggest handicap at his club after he broke a leg - at the 13th hole!
The 59-year-old from Leyland was left writhing in agony when rain-sodden ground gave way under his feet at Garstang Golf Course, twisting his right leg painfully out of position.
A pal dashed for help only to find the nearest phone box vandalised. He then had to run two miles to the clubhouse to contact paramedics.
David said: "I was in agony. I heard my leg crack."
The ambulance couldn't drive over the soggy turf - so fellow golfers had to use the club's tractor to take the patient to safety.
And the misery continued - David was too cold to be injected with anaesthetic to ease the agony of being lifted.
David was taken to Royal Preston Hospital and an x-ray showed he had broken his leg in three places. He still managed to raise a smile and thank hospital staff. He said: "I'm very grateful to them."
