HEALTH watchdogs are looking for a logo in a bid to raise the profile of their work.
At their annual review day, held recently at Accrington Victoria Hospital, the Blackburn, Hyndburn and Ribble Valley Community Health Council established the need to develop a stronger identity.
Led by chief officer Nigel Robinson, CHC members and staff heard how their knowledge and commitment had strengthened the organisation, as had the good working relationship with local NHS trusts. But they identified several weaknesses, including too few staff, competition from well-funded organisations with charitable status and the lack of public accessibility and identity.
The review also highlighted the CHC's inability to 'force or fine' like other watchdogs, such as OFWAT. The CHC believe the way forward is to develop outreach points - or surgeries - for the public, use more technology, increase training and link up with universities for better research.
Future problems identified by the CHC include the social change in the 12 months following the formation of Blackburn with Darwen unitary authority, in April, and need for a new corporate logo and improved information technology.
