WITH a name like Mountain, you'd expect him to be a mean climber.
But firefighter Steve, of White Watch in Blackburn, went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure a pensioner got home safely.
He was helping to rescue a resident of Bowland House flats, in Larkhill, Blackburn, from the broken-down lift when he noticed pensioner Nan Rushton waiting with her shopping at the foot of the stairs.
He said: "Both lifts had broken down while she was out shopping and she told me she lived on the 12th floor.
"It's a long way up and she was obviously uneasy about climbing the stairs so I offered to give her a lift - literally.
"I carried her all the way to her door - shopping and all. I didn't think it was such an unusual thing to do."
Nan, 83, can't thank her knight in shining armour enough and even offered him a refreshing cup of tea to say thanks.
She said: "He turned it down because he said he was on duty, but he's promised to call again in the near future.
"It was a lovely, considerate gesture - something you don't expect in this day and age. I'd like to say a big thank you to him."
So, would he do it again? "Probably," Steve added, "but I have to admit I was a bit tired by the time we reached her flat!"
