THE supersonic Lightning fighter which was designed and built by East Lancashire workers made its last flight from British Aerospace at Warton.
The 'silver dream' fighter, capable of flying at twice the speed of sound, had been designed, developed and built by workers in Clayton-le-Moors, Samlesbury and Preston. The planes were replaced by Tornado aircraft, and the final flying example was taken to a museum. ACC/BBN
