REGARDING the criticism of staff at Ward 5 at Blackburn Infirmary (LET, December 27), I was a patient there for eight days after being in the Intensive Care Unit with six broken ribs and a collapsed lung.
I would not find any fault with the staff. The nurses could not do enough for you. The consultant and his team were excellent. When I heard of this critical report, I just could not believe it.
I would also add that there is only one cleaner on the whole of Ward 5, which takes 32 patients, and it was spotless. On one occasion, where was only one State Registered Nurse looking after 16 patients. She was sorting out medicines, giving out drinks and giving help wherever it was needed. I heard not one complaint from her, even though she was run off her feet.
It is about time the management came and looked at how hard these nurses work. They are truly angels and worth a lot more than they get. So dedicated.
