A STUDENT with an appetite for adventure is off to Hungary after winning the Thwaites Scholarship.
Emma Rabone (17), of Hawthorn Avenue, Radcliffe, has been selected by the Mayor of Bury, Councillor Roy Walker, to be an ambassador for her town during a three-week trip to Budapest this summer.
She was one of a dozen students nominated for the scholarship by Bury College, where she is studying for an advanced GNVQ in health and social care.
Emma, who is the fourth Thwaites Scholarship winner from the college in five years, was chosen after impressing the mayor in an interview. She is one of just nine students from across the region who will be making the trip.
During her visit she will learn the language, undertake charity and community work and explore the Hungarian culture.
Emma said: "I'm really pleased to have been chosen for the trip. The Thwaites Scholarship is a prestigious prize to win and I can't wait to travel to Eastern Europe this summer."
