FIRST impressions count - which is why Fylde Borough Council has got together with the North West Tourist Board to make visitors to Fylde feel as welcome as possible.
The two organisations have teamed up to put on a one-day training course called Welcome Host open to owners and staff of hotels, guesthouses, self-catering establishments, retail outlets and visitor attractions.
The course which is nationally-recognised, is designed to train anybody who comes face-to-face with tourists to increase their customer service and communication skills.
It looks at how to cater for visitors with special needs and how to make a good impression.
Councillor John Longstaff, chairman of Fylde Borough Council's tourism committee, welcomed the course saying: "National research has shown that tourists are demanding higher standards of accommodation, better service and greater value for money.
"For Fylde to maintain and build on its market sector we need to remain competitive in these areas.
"Attitudes to the customer are changing and first time visitors need to be converted into repeat visitors.
"This can only happen if their experience is positive and favourable."
Three initial course dates have been set for January 28, February 25 and March 25.
The cost of the course, which includes a full information pack, certificate and lapel badge, is £20.
