FIREFIGHTERS tackled a major blaze at the Priory Hotel on Prescot Road earlier this week.
Over 20 per cent of the roof was severely damaged by the fire which started at about 2.30pm on Monday.. In addition, water caused damage to the rest of the building.
The fire service were on the scene until 10.15pm and the junction between Prescot Road and Boundary Road was closed to motorists until the building was made safe.
The building acts as a hostel run by St Helens Council and the fire service is now investigating the cause of the fire. The 12 residents have since been re-housed.
