BEWARE, wrong uns! The boys in blue have their eyes on you.
The New Year marks a security step-up with police going directly on screen to clamp down on town centre crime. Spy-in-the-sky TV cameras are now linked to a monitor at Leigh Police Station via the borough's Central Watch Control.
Councillor John Lea, a Leigh town centre trader, has welcomed the latest security moves: "This is another warning to villains," he said. "The pictures are so clear you can actually read the writing on shop menus!"
Leigh Police Chief Supt Brian Wroe welcomed the CCTV link which will give lawmen instant access to what's happening and where.
But Chief Inspector Wroe stressed: "We will use it for specific operations like ram raids but a policeman will not be watching the screens 24 hours a day. Our job is out on the streets.
"But the cameras will be continually monitored by Central Watch staff and civilian police station staff will also watch the in-station monitor when possible."
