ST HELENS students are receiving special training so that they can give immediate help to any victim of a coronary attack whose heart stops beating.
Sixth-form students at Rainford High, Carmel College and Newton High are among the 100 local people who have so far been trained in CPR - cardiopulmonary resuscitation - by the St Helens & Knowsley Community Health (NHS) Trust.
Courses are being run by Debra Russell, Senior Health Promotion Advisor with the Trust, and will be continuing during the year. Local GP receptionists are also among those being trained.
"CPR is a relatively simple technique to understand, and if someone suffers a cardiac arrest it can save their life," said Debra.
