A delegation from Lancaster council went to London to try and squeeze an extra £610,000 out of the government for the city. The council say their annual grant is £700,000 down because the government excluded a factor about council house sales in their calculations. The top-ranking council officials and MPs Hilton Dawson and Geraldine Smith met with Local Government minister Hilary Armstrong.
But Chief Executive David Corker seemed pessimistic about the chances of securing the extra cash.
Speaking after the meeting, he said: "We met with the minister who was sympathetic to our case but she explained that if they were to change it would have a knock-on effect."
