THE case of jailed Galgate anarchist Stephen Booth is to be examined by top government officials.
Lancaster MP Hilton Dawson is arranging a meeting with the Attorney General John Morris QC to discuss the case.
Mr Dawson wants the appeal to be heard as soon as possible. He also wants Stephen to be tried under different laws.
Stephen was sentenced under the conspiracy laws which means he was found guilty by association.
"I'm not condoning anything which would incite criminal damage," said Mr Dawson. "But I have expressed concern about Stephen and I want him dealt with in another way.
"I am very concerned about my constituent who is facing this sentence in a secure prison. On the face of it this is in marked contrast to recent cases of people severely beating people up and then getting probation."
