FREEHOLD'S controversial traffic calming scheme is to be reviewed by the city council.
The scheme in Ullswater Road and Derwent Road is often gridlocked during rush hour and residents have grown increasingly frustrated.
Ward councillor, Ian Barker, has asked for a review and a report will go before the transportation service group next month.
Said Cllr Barker: "There is a clear need for us to look again at the scheme. Residents generally support the idea of traffic calming in Freehold but are critical of the details of the implementation. It is clear it has not worked as well as the council or local people would have liked."
The area is used by motorists to escape Lancaster's one-way system and as a rat-run during rush hour.
Cllr Barker added: "We will not be able to satisfy everybody completely, but a better balance needs to be struck."
An Ullswater Road resident described the scheme as "absolute rubbish" and added: "It's calmed the traffic that much that it's ground to a complete halt. We're slowly being choked to death by exhaust fumes."
