A SCHOOL is celebrating an outstanding government inspection report.

Stubbins Primary in Rossendale was praised for a number of aspects including "high quality of leadership, a dedicated and professional staff and very good standards of pupil behaviour."

Pupils were also reaching levels of achievement in English, Maths and Science above the national average, OFSTED inspectors said.

Results were said to be "exceptionally high" with some work showing a maturity and skill level not often seen in primary schools, a report added.

Inspectors said pupils of all abilities were catered for and those with special needs were well integrated.

The head, deputy, teaching staff and governors were all praised for their part in school life.

Chairman of governors Coun Philip Dunne said: "I am delighted with the report which I feel pays realistic tribute to the high quality of work evident at Stubbins.

Headteacher Stan Johnson was praised for providing "committed, confident and very supportive leadership."

He said the school would not become complacent about the report.

He added: "We can all be proud of what has been achieved. This will be a platform for even greater success as we strive towards excellence."
