A WOMAN who spent two nights behind bars after a row with her boyfriend patched things up when she was released - by marrying him.

Julie Daniels, 38, of St Mary's Close, Blackburn, was arrested on Saturday after an incident which left her boyfriend Michael Ormerod with wounds to his hands.

She spent the weekend in the cells at Blackburn police station before appearing before magistrates on Monday morning, and she was bound over to keep the peace for 12 months.

Mr Ormerod, 36, arrived at the court wearing a tuxedo and took his fiance to the Blackburn Register Office in Jubilee Street, where they were married in a low-key ceremony.

At his home in Woodlea Road, Blackburn, Mr Ormerod confirmed that they had married after leaving court, but said: "We don't want to say anything else."

Neighbours said news of the couple's wedding had come as a surprise.

A spokesman for Blackburn police said: "Julie Daniels was arrested on Saturday following a domestic incident during which her boyfriend received wounds to his hands.

"She appeared from custody at Blackburn magistrates court on Monday concerning an alleged breach of the peace and was bound over."

Blackburn Register Office confirmed the pair were married there at noon on Monday.
