REGARDING the flooded footpath from Mill Hill to Witton, does Mr H Haworth (Letters, January 19) realise that the path is part of the Mill Hill heritage?
That footpath was flooded in the 1930s. In fact, the adjoining streets were also flooded and the area was nicknamed 'the Lake District.'
For dry walking, the route from Mill Hill was along on Nares Street on the east side as it had a good pavement. The council made up Nares Street and it was said at the time that residents of the street, feeling a touch of one-upmanship, petitioned the council to change the name to Nares Road.
Eventually, all the streets were made up. So the path by the river is all that remains of Mill Hill's infamous 'Lake District.'
Let the children splash through the water as we used to do, or go around by Nares Road.
