PLANS to create a light entertainment group as a permanent living memorial to Les Dawson are back on track.
The Love 'N' Laughter Entertainers was formed in 1996 with the aim of highlighting all that Les stood for through live shows in the region, but the project was shelved temporarily because of members' prior commitments.
Now, the aim is to relaunch the group with a view to producing shows, encouraging local talent, raising money for charitable causes and, above all, making audiences smile - to help them forget all their worries for an hour or two.
The group will be caring, high profile and operate to a professional standard by encouraging amateurs, semi-professionals and professionals to work together for a common cause.
Founder chairman Tony Hughes explained: "In a way, Les Dawson was classless.
"He could fit in anywhere with anybody, from a dustbin man to the Queen.
"He was a very warm person and when he was the top of the bill he wouldn't go around as if he was the star but would help the other acts.
"He always encouraged new talent and was keen on talent shows.
"As an admirer of Les' work, I feel there is a niche for a permanent tribute society to produce shows incorporating the principles for which he stood.
"My personal life philosophies revolve around love and laughter and making people happy, so I do feel Les' values should be perpetuated, promoted and passed on down the generations."
The shows Tony has in mind are based on comedy and music with in-built talent spots, appealing to all ages, but these are just ideas to be discussed with a committee.
Many people have already shown interest in joining the group, but particularly needed are a financial director and the participation of a professional theatrical production company or agency to add a professional touch.
Anyone interested should call Tony on 739405.
