HAYDOCK coach Kevin Thompson travelled North on Sunday for a spying mission on Silk Cut Challenge Cup rivals Workington Town.

For Town, a Super League outfit, 18 months go were hammered in a friendly by the merged Barrow and Carlisle clubs.

A crowd of only 569 saw Barrow Border Raiders hammer Town 56-14.

And a Haydock spokesman said after the game: "There were definite signs for optimism for when we go to Workington on February 1."

And the Yickers hope to have a large band of supporters following them to Derwent Park for the third round tie.

Coaches will leave their base at Haydock Cricket Club in Piele Road at 10 am and arrive back in Haydock at about 10pm.
