MORE improvements are planned for a Leigh park - thanks to the Wesley Guild home builder.

Exciting plans to further enhance Pennington Park have been revealed with funding mainly from Wainhomes. They include new tennis courts, roller hockey, basketball and toddler areas.

As part of Guild planning permission, the housebuilders had to agree to pay £30,000 to be spent on community facilities.

Park improvements were decided following consultation between Pennington Park User Group, Wigan Leisure chiefs and local councillors.

Ward representative Cllr Brian Jarvis explained:"In the last four years the Council has spent £90,000 improving bowling greens, planting flower beds and providing a children's play area.

"Now there will be four reconstructed tennis courts, a hard-surface which can be used as an overspill court plus a football, basketball and roller hockey and play zone.

"Pennington Park User Group have worked hard on this and the scheme shows the Council's commitment to the future of Pennington Park.

"Already improvements have resulted in a reduction in the level of vandalism."

Fences and gates will also be repaired or replaced.
