A STUDENT has won a dream trip to trace his family's roots in Hungary this summer.

Adam Nagy, aged 17, will act as an ambassador for Preston after scooping a travel scholarship in a scheme set up by Thwaites Breweries.

The trip is extra special for Adam because his father, Andy, was born in Hungary and fled the country with his family during troubles in 1956.

Adam jets off in July and will stay with a local family for a few weeks, visiting landmarks such as the Baroque castle and the Hungarian National Gallery and learning the language.

Adam, from Catforth, said: "The trip will teach me a lot about my family's history. It will be fantastic to see the places my grandma has told me about."

He will join eight North West students for the trip - co-ordinated by Lancashire's Education Authority - and will take a gift from the Preston mayor to give to a Hungarian delegate.
