A RADCLIFFE home for the elderly is at the centre of an investigation after three staff members were suspended.

The disciplinary action came after allegations that one of the staff had been aggressive during the handling of a patient at the Rose Court Nursing and Residential home.

An inquiry was launched by the home owners, London-based Harmony Healthcare, and bosses at Bury Council's social services are waiting to hear of the outcome.

Police were initially called to the Water Street private home but are not taking any action.

It is understood that two of the staff made an allegation that a colleague had been aggressive towards a male patient in his 80s.

All three staff were suspended while an investigation got under way.

Mrs Sue Lightup, social services deputy director, said: "We understand the home is undergoing its own investigation and we are awaiting the results."

Commenting on the patient involved in the alleged incident, she added: "We have been in touch with this person's family who know what's going on and are satisfied he is being cared for appropriately.

"He is safe, basically, although a serious allegation has been made. We will be watching the situation carefully."

Mr Andrew Cohen, managing director of Harmony Healthcare, said on Wednesday that investigations were continuing.

"Until the inquiry is complete, I cannot comment. I can't say how long the investigation will last. It is being handled by our team internally and they have to gather evidence and give everyone a fair hearing."
