Pilkington Recs 10 Farnworth 37 NOT for the first time this season Recs enjoyed the territorial advantage but were unable to convert this into points.
Most of the first half was close as the game flowed from end to end. After an early unconverted try from Farnworth, Recs levelled the scores when prop Ian Connolly delivered the final pass which saw wingman Jason Ledger scamper in.
At this stage Recs were holding their own, with hard work coming from hooker Peter Cahalin, debutante John Riley and busy half-backs Craig Burrows and Dave Price.
Disaster struck however in the four minute period up to the interval when out of the blue Recs conceded three tries, one converted, which saw them trailing by 14 points.
Recs lifted themselves after the interval and were back in contention after seven minutes when playmaker Shaun Dolan strode 25 yards through a gap to draw the full-back and fed the supporting Anthony Marsh who scored. Mike Carr added the conversion.
Most of the next 10 minutes were spent in the visitors half as Ste Simpson, Dave Price and Ste Traverse all went close. Just as Recs seemed certain to score wide out via a three-to-one overlap, the final pass was intercepted and the visitors centre ran 90 yards to score.
This score appeared to deliver the killer blow to Recs as it seemed that 'heads went down' after this.
Farnworth well organised in defence went on to show why they are chasing the premier division title and crossed for two more well-constructed, converted tries.
Recs' top tackling hooker Peter Cahalin took the St Helens Roofing man of the match award. Good contributions came also from Shaun Dolan, Mike Carr and Dave Price.
