A PLUCKY pensioner made a valiant attempt to thwart a cowardly robber who snatched her handbag after creeping up behind her.
The incident happened as the 72-year-old victim made her way along North John Street in St Helens town centre at about 1.45pm on Friday, January 16 after getting off a bus in Duke Street
A struggle then ensued as the woman tried to keep hold of the bag but the attacker knocked her the floor, bruising her knee and elbow, before running off down Duke Street with the bag which contained about £60 in cash.
The attacker was between 18 and 20 years of age, about 5ft 6ins tall with short black hair. He was wearing a blue anorak.
