POLICE are appealing for witnesses to an incident in which a 23-year-old man was attacked with what is thought to have been a metal bar.
The victim was walking along Warrington Road, Rainhill, in the direction of Whiston, after a night out at the Victoria pub when the attack took place at about 11.30pm on Friday, January 9. As he neared the junction with Holt Road, Rainhill, he was attacked from behind by an assailant who knocked him to the ground and hit him four or five times with the bar before running off towards Whiston Hospital.
The victim managed to walk to the hospital where he received five staples to a cut in his head and treatment for a fractured thumb.
