Morecambe 3 Gateshead 1 MORECAMBE waltzed into the semi-finals of the Spalding Cup on Tuesday night. In truth, Gateshead were poor opposition for the Shrimps to secure their fourth win in a row. But the standard of opposition took nothing away from the quality of the three goals from the home side.
Shrimps had to wait until the second half to score their first goal.
Mark Ceraolo passed inside the penalty area for Ian Monk who knocked the ball between the legs of keeper Dean Williams for the first.
The second came on the hour when Milner latched on to an excellent delivery from Monk into the six yard box to tap the ball home.
Gateshead managed to pull one back towards the end, but when substitute Mark Drummond picked up the ball on the half way and sent Ceraolo away with two minutes to go the game was over. Ceraolo's shot was saved but the ball dropped for Drummond to finish the move he started with a first time shot.
The semi-final will be a two legged match.
Team: McIlhargey, Rushton (Hodgson 85), Burns, McKearney, Mayers, Grimshaw (Drummond), Monk, Healy, Milner, Norman (Ceraolo 39), Parkinson.
