SOUTH African spinner Corrie Jordaan will not be returning to Lowerhouse, writes TONY GARNER.

The slow left armer claimed 100 wickets and topped last season's EW Cartons Lancashire League bowling averages with a miserly 9.44 runs per wicket.

But the Eastern Transvaal veteran's stay at Liverpool Road was troubled.

Jordaan's relationship with his team-mates was strained and the club's initial decision was not to resign a bowling professional.

However, after a backlash from members, the decision was reversed and Jordaan was persuaded to sign a revised deal.

The South African's agent Richard Marsh said: "His contract has been cancelled by mutual agreement.

"Both sides put it in writing and I have the letters in front of me. He was a little bit shocked but I don't think he was happy coming back under a different regime. He was his own man with Ken Smalley last year. The ones that wanted him back are no longer in charge."

David Wren, who has returned to the club as chairman following Mr Smalley's resignation, said: "Corrie and I spoke about things this week and he decided that he did not want to come back to the club. "We are building the club up again and I would have preferred him to come back. And I told him this.

"There is no doubt that he is a magnificent bowler and my big headache is how do you replace someone like that.

"I have no doubt that with him here and a new batsman we would have been up there going for the title.

"But the important thing for Lowerhouse now is that we look to the future and rebuild the spirit in the club."

Bacup have signed South African all-rounder Brad White to replace James Peterson as professional.

The 27-year-old, who came to the fore as a major run-getter with Transvaal, has previous experience of English conditions having played for Central Lancashire League club Walsden.
