YOU were good enough to publish (Letters, January 12) my views on the subject of breath-testing during the last Christmas period.

Significantly perhaps, there has never been any explanation from Lancashire Constabulary as to how they managed to test so many drivers when random testing is not allowed.

Now, we learn (LET, January 27) that 'Booze Buses,' currently in use in Australia, are being considered by the county council and the police. In Australia, random testing is permitted, so they might have a useful function there.

Before the proposed trip to Victoria by our representatives - using public money - should not a lot more consideration be given in the potential usefulness of this scheme. Unless, of course, Lancashire County Council knows something about the Government's future legislative agenda, that I - and others reading their election manifesto - do not?

This time, some answers would be welcome.
