LANCASHIRE Lynx have spelled out their intentions for the coming season by pulling off an audacious swoop for Kiwi Richard Henare.
Lynx beat Salford for the signature of the former Warrington winger, although he will not be eligible for tomorrow's Silk Cut Challenge Cup fourth round clash with First Division Dewsbury Rams at Deepdale (3.00pm start).
Henare played just eight games for Carlisle after arriving from New Zealand before Warrington took him into Super League.
He earned some rave reviews but encountered some off-the-field difficulties and was subsequently released by the Wire.
However, Lynx manager Kevin Tamati hopes to harness the talent of the 28-year-old from Hawkes Bay as he plans a promotion winning campaign once the league season starts on Good Friday.
"He wants to get his career back onto the right path and hopefully help us get into the First Division," said Tamati.
"I saw him play for Warrington and he could be an inspiration. He is very quick, strong and aggressive.
"If we don't win the league I will be very disappointed. Last year we performed superbly until the end part of the season when we fell apart. "We have identified that problem and strengthened the side and we are a lot stronger and fitter."
Tamati has also been reunited with Jason Viller, who played under Tamati at Salford before moving onto Rochdale, Hunslet and Barrow.
Viller, who can play in a variety of positions, also misses tomorrow's cup-tie but other recent arrivals Jayson Pekepo and Darren Abrahams will be helping Lynx try and upset the Rams.
Lynx enjoyed a 46-0 victory over West Hull in the last round and Tamati is optimistic that on their own patch and with the benefit of a big pitch they can pull off a shock.
Flying wingman Ray Waring was taken off with concussion against West Hull and is ruled out, his place going to Neil Parsley. Also missing will be long-term injury victims Steve Ashcroft, Lyndon Smith and Steve Smith.
Like Lynx, Dewsbury also had a comfortable passage in the third round, defeating Thornhill 40-2 at Crown Flat.
Last weekend they played a friendly against a mixed Bradford Bulls outfit, going down to a 30-14 defeat. Players to watch will be winger Dennis Bailey and hooker Barry Eaton.
Lynx will line up: Allday, McLoughlin, Finney, Abram, Parsley, Jones, Kelly, Taylor, Ruane, Gee, Briscoe, Solomon. Subs Byrne, Fairhurst, Donno, Mawdsley.
