ANGRY anti-hunt protesters besieged the Holcombe Hunt's annual ball at the Dunkenhalgh Hotel, Clayton-le-Moors.
Police were out in force, with mounted officers, foot patrols and two riot vans at the hotel, which hosted the hunt's annual ball along with other functions on Saturday night.
About 25 protesters gathered on the pavement outside the hotel gates and shouted at guests arriving in cars.
The protesters carried banners with slogans and calling for an end to hare coursing.
Protester Sarah Hill, 30, a manager at an animal rescue centre, said: "Hare coursing goes on right through the year, and there is no logical reason for killing these animals."
Hunt secretary George Dickinson said: "There was a small number of protesters, but the police and the security staff at the hotel had them well under control."
