A DISABLED man is making a stand against British Gas after being threatened with court action despite only having electricity at his home.

Gary Wignall, 50, has refused on principle to spend his cash on making a telephone call or sending a letter to the company to inform them of the mistake.

Instead he says he will sue them for harassment if the demands for payment keep arriving at his home in Rosehill Avenue, Blackburn.

"The bill has my address but also the name of a company in Preston. During the last month I have received a final demand and a threat of court action," said Mr Wignall, who is registered disabled.

"I would have got in touch if there had been a Freefone number or pre-paid envelope but I don't see why I should pay for their mistake.

"The letters will keep going in the bin. I will take it all the way if I have to."

A spokesman for British Gas apologised for any inconvenience caused to Mr Wignall.

He added: "It was an error on our part. The wrong address was on our records but as he did not contact us we had no way of knowing.

"A simple telephone call charged at local rate would have sorted the matter out.

"We have now changed our records and Mr Wignall should not receive any letters."
