BURNLEY will go out with all guns blazing as they bid to home in on Wembley at the expense of Red Rose rivals Preston at Turf Moor tonight.

Chris Waddle has rung the changes during the Clarets' Auto Windscreens Shield run as he has taken the chance to keep all his first team squad involved.

But with Wembley now just two wins away, Waddle is likely to stick with the line-up he has been using in Burnley's climb away from the foot of the Second Division.

The Burnley boss will make late checks on striker Andy Cooke (calf) and wing-back Paul Weller (knee) but expects them to be fit.

And he confirmed: "At this stage there won't be a lot of changes from Saturday. We are one game away from a final, albeit a northern final, but we will be taking it seriously and I am sure Preston will be as well."

That's borne out by the fact that Preston manager David Moyes is likely to use the same players who earned a 0-0 draw at Brentford on Saturday, provided Ryan Kidd is passed fit, as they seek revenge for a 3-2 derby defeat a week past Saturday.

"We beat them over there and hopefully we can do the same again," added Waddle. "It would be annoying from our point of view if we were to lose at home after beating them away."

Waddle believes his side is well equipped to keep the run going, given the rub of the green always needed in cup ties. And he is looking for a repeat of the attitude his side showed when their winning streak came to an end at Wycombe allied to a better final product. "Let's just hope Saturday was a hiccup," said Waddle. "We played well enough but we didn't take our chances. If we had done we would have won well."

That said, Waddle is more than happy with his strikeforce of Payton and Andy Cooke, who have scored 13 goals between them in the last eight games.

"I am looking at Andy Cooke getting more than 20 goals the way he is going and there's no reason why Andy Payton can't get double figures. If they do that it should help in pulling us well away from the bottom six."

Had Payton not arrived from Huddersfield and struck up a prolific partnership with Cooke, Waddle may have renewed his interest in John Mullin who will line up for Preston tonight (kick-off 7.45).

The former Burnley striker has joined North End on loan from Sunderland, who Waddle approached about the 22-year-old earlier this season.

"We had a look at him a few times but the problem was a bit of money," confirmed Waddle. "I don't think Sunderland wanted to let him go but they have made a few signings since and he has gone to Preston on loan. "I didn't have a lot of options at the time but we have got Kevin Henderson now who is doing well and we didn't have Andy Payton."

Waddle has also played in a forward role and is fit again. He would be an alternative should Cooke not recover but a comeback in the reserves tomorrow night is the more likely option before the weekend's visit of Brentford.

Preston are trying to secure the signing of French striker Habib Sissoko, 26, from Louhans-Cuiseaux 71 but a deal was unlikely to go through in time for him to play tonight.

Burnley choose from: Beresford, Brass, Weller, Moore, Harrison, Winstanley, Little, Matthew, Robertson, Payton, Cooke, Blatherwick, Hoyland, Henderson.

Preston's squad is: Moilanen, Parkinson, Kidd, Barrick, Murdock, Jackson, Gregan, Cartwright, Ashcroft, Mullin, Nogan, Appleton, Eyres, Davey.

Former Burnley defender Steve Davis has joined Oxford United on loan from Barnsley.
