Morecambe 1 Woking 2 - MORECAMBE manager Jim Harvey refused to discuss this match after another disappointing home defeat. Morecambe missed the chance to close the gap on leaders Halifax Town the week after crashing out of the FA Trophy and the Shrimps' manager couldn't bring himself to speculate on their forthcoming big match against local rivals Lancaster City in the ATS Trophy semi-final. "That match is not one of my priorities," Harvey explained.
Shrimps collapsed in the second half against Woking after a ridiculous home goal from Kevin Betsy gave the Shrimps the lead just before half time.
But two bad defensive errors from the home side gave Woking a win which puts them one place above the Shrimps in the GM Conference.
The first came in the 65th minute. Robin Taylor was unmarked when he met a cross from the by-line to score at the back post. Then the Shrimps and their supporters in the 1,500 crowd were gob-smacked by the killer blow on 80 minutes. Dave McKearney's back pass to Morecambe keeper Steve McIlhargey went horribly wrong and allowed Steve Payne to nip in and score the softest of goals.
Morecambe: McIlhargey, Rushton (Drummond 85), Burns, McKearney, Mayers, Grimshaw, Monk, Healy, Milner, Norman (Mitchell 41), Shirley (Ceraolo 71).
Shrimps signed Neil Mitchell from Macclesfield last Friday. The team are away at Hereford on Saturday but have drawn a home match against Northwich Victoria in the Spalding Cup on Tuesday.
