LANCASHIRE and England batsman Neil Fairbrother has launched St Helens Council's new Cricket development plan. The council is encouraging more cricket in schools and clubs and is establishing a development group to take the proposals forward.
Neil opened the batting at the new Selwyn Jones Sport Centre, Newton. Under the programme plans include hard ball cricket for Year Six pupils; kwik cricket courses for teachers; holiday cricket courses and launch a new cricket tournament in schools to provide first selection process for the Merseyside Youth Games cricket team.
In March a champion coaching cricket programme will be launched at the new Selwyn Jones centre.
Cricket course diary dates are March 3 and 10 at Selwyn Jones Sports Centre for the kwik cricket courses; a schools cricket festival on May 6 at Ruskin Drive and the champion coaching event at Selwyn Jones from March 12 to July 23. The scheme is being launched in partnership with the Lancashire Cricket Development Officer Pete Ackerley and the council's sports development team.
