A BLACKBURN and Darwen branch of Amnesty International is being launched with a public meeting at Blackburn Library tomorrow (Saturday).
Brian Plant, North West Regional Representative for Amnesty, said: "We have many active individual members in Blackburn and Darwen, but it is one of the largest towns without a local group.
"We hope that as many people as possible will become involved: there is a role for everyone. Even if you can only spare the odd half-hour, you can help in Amnesty's vital work for human rights."
Local members will be asked to join human rights campaigns by letter writing, circulating petitions, organising vigils and fund-raising events.
Tomorrow's public meeting starts at 2pm in the library's Hornby Lecture Theatre.
